Today I’m here to drop three lists featuring the new Aetherdrift commanders. Obviously, Hashaton, Scarab’s Fist isn’t included—no brainer that it’s playable.
DISCLAIMER: In every deck I’ve included a little personal “heart card.” You’re free not to include it, but I’d be seriously offended—just so you know.
Mendicant Core
Let’s start with the most playable of the three, Mendicant Core. It’s a classic artifact shell—an aggro deck that can hold its own in the late game thanks to the value the commander generates.
Favourite card: Tempered Steel.
Loot, the Pathfinder
The second deck is led by Loot, the Pathfinder. Sure, it costs 5 mana, but it’s got three awesome keywords—and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want a card with loot, recall, and lightning all rolled into one? I almost went with the obvious choice, given that Genesis Storm is in the mix, but this one can also win via Scapeshift or even infinite turns.
Favourite card: Kessig Wolf’s Run—because dreaming of a giant Loot that can dish out lethal damage is free.
Far Fortune, End Boss
The third and final commander is probably unplayable, but I took it to prerelease and it made holes in both the table and the floor, so I decided to give it its own list. I’m talking about Far Fortune, End Boss. It’s straight-up aggro, aiming to deal damage as fast as possible. It has a little theme around the Start Your Engines mechanic and can close out games in the later stages with classic silver bullets (like Price of Progress), as well as some unexpected tech pieces—think Wheel of Fortune + Sheoldred, the Apocalypse.
Favourite card: Hellrider.
