Centurions,
During the recently concluded season, we witnessed the growth of new communities, and we’re thrilled to see the enthusiasm and commitment to growing this format together.
Thus begins the second season of the year—and of course, it brings a substantial update, the result of continuous balancing efforts and bold decisions.
Let’s look together at the changes and the reasoning behind them.

Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student
Since her release, this commander has pushed the control archetype in a very specific direction and has been under close observation ever since. Over time, thanks to player innovation and the declining presence of decks that could effectively challenge her (but struggled against the rest of the meta), Tamiyo’s few weaknesses have essentially vanished.
At the start of the season, we introduced Uro to diversify options for Simic control. With Uro’s departure, we don’t want to risk monopolizing control structures within the meta.
For these reasons, Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student is now banned as a commander.

Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath
The Uro experience has come to an end.
Over the past few months, the quality of the data exceeded our expectations in terms of Uro’s impact on the metagame. His resilience, flexibility, and multiple lines of play led to a gameplay experience that was not particularly enjoyable for many players.
Moreover, the options available to effectively counter Uro were too narrow for the kind of metagame we’re aiming for—risking, over time, a meta dominated by very limited choices.
For these reasons, the beloved and reviled Uro returns to the banlist.

Vial Smasher the Fierce
There have been two main reasons for keeping this commander on the banlist: the ability to deal “free” damage, and the access to both red and black through the partner mechanic.
However, we believe that winning solely by triggering Vial Smasher’s ability is becoming increasingly difficult. The quality of opponents’ threats continues to rise, and the time available to develop Vial Smasher is shrinking.
As for color access, we’re confident that this opens up exciting new directions across multiple archetypes.
We hope that, at last, Vial Smasher can shine alongside the right partners.

Survival of the Fittest
The final piece of news in this update: the unbanning of Survival of the Fittest.
Yes, a bold move—but we’ve made it clear that our goal is to keep pushing the power level toward a maximum sustainable ceiling.
With this unban, we’re adding a strong card that deserves to carve out a place in the metagame.
Survival of the Fittest offers numerous possibilities in gameplan design, fits into various archetypes, and certainly won’t lead to boring games.
We believe the card’s development pace is manageable across most archetypes and can fit positively into our framework.
For these reasons, Survival of the Fittest is now legal.
